Dear John

The protagonist in this story is John Tyree. In the beginning John starts out as a child growing up with no mother. He is raised by his father who barley says more then a few words and when he does it usually has to do with coins. As John gets older he starts to hate the fact that his father likes coins. John becomes an unruly teenager who hates his father and his coins. John enlists in the army and becomes a better person. While on leave from the army at age 23 he meets Savannah Curtis.

The antagonist is Savannah Curtis. Savannah is a young 21 year old girl when she meets John. They quickly fall in love but they both realize that he has to leave and go back to the army in two weeks. They spend the two weeks falling more in love everyday. When it’s time for john to go back, they promise to write to each other and when he returns from the army they promise to get married. For the first few months the letters come every couple weeks but soon they start coming later and later until one day Savannah sends John a letter that will change their lives forever. Savannah tells John that she has met someone new.

The conflict is person vs. person because John and Savannah are in love until Savannah falls in love with someone else and ends things with John and marries another guy. So the conflict is between Savannah and John.

The setting is in North Carolina and it is important because the book kind of takes place in the city and more rural areas. The time period is 2001 because it is 9/11 that makes John decide to reenlist into the army.

The plot starts out with John growing up with no mother and a father that barley talks and when he does it is usually about coins because his father loves coins. John grows tired of his father never talking and so he becomes an unruly teenager and enlists in the army to become a better person. While on leave from the army he meets Savannah Curtis while she is in town building a house for a needy family and they soon fall in love. John has to go back to Germany in two weeks because of the army so they make a promise to write letters and when he gets back they promise to get married.

So John leaves and gets letters from Savannah every couple of weeks. When he finally gets to leave the army it is 2001 and 9/11 happens so he decides to reenlist into the army. The letters from Savannah start coming later and later until finally she writes a letter saying that she couldn’t handle waiting for him any longer and that she has met someone new.

When John gets let out from the army in 2003 he goes home and finds out his dad is dying. A few days later his dad dies. So John decides to go see Savannah and finds out she is married and her husband was an old friend of Johns and his name is Tim. Tim has skin cancer and is in the hospital and a lot of people think he is going to die. John and Savannah hang out again but John decides it’s to hard because he is still in love with her and he can tell she is still in love him. So John leaves because he knows how hard it is for Savannah and he goes to the hospital and says good-bye to Tim. John goes to a place where they are raising money for Tim and he sells his dads coin collection and gives all the money to help Tim get better medical attention. He does it anonymously and when Savannah finds out how much money it was she gets Tim to a better hospital and he goes into recovery.

The climax in the story is when John and Savannah meet and they fall in love because they both know that John has to go back to fight in the war.

The denouement for John is that even though he doesn’t Savannah in the end he knows that he will always have a special place in his heart and that she will always have a special place in his. The denouement for Savannah is that she marries Tim and he recovers from his cancer and that she got to see John again.

The theme is that if you really love somebody then you will do whatever makes then happy no matter how much it hurts you.

“ Love means that you care for another person’s happiness more then your own, no matter how painful the choices you face might be.”

If I had a genie then I would wish for

    1. I would wish to be rich even though I know money can never buy happiness it sure can buy a lot of other things and it would be awesome to live in a big house! But the bad thing would be that people might be using you for your money and not like you for who you are.

    1. I would also wish for robots to do all the stuff I do not want to do like cleaning and homework and to drive me to school and make gourmet meals. It would be so cool because then you would not have to do anything except focus on doing things like sports and not having to worry about not having done your homework because then you could just be like “Oh yea, My robot did it!”.

    1. And for my last wish I would probably wish for something awesome like to have magical powers because it would be so awesome to have super speed or some cool super power! I would not want to have a power like mind reading because I don’t even want to know what some people are thinking and I would not want to have x-ray vision either because that would just be weird! But having super speed would be cool because if you ever had to race with someone then you would win and it would be good for sports that you run a lot in like soccer! It would be cool to fly too so I do not know which one I would choose, either flying or super speed.

If I had a genie then that would be awesome! I wish genies were real because I would want one! Those might be the things I wish for but I do not know. I might think of something even greater (Except having super powers, nothing would be greater then that!).

If I was 5 years older I would be almost 18 and would be graduating soon. I would hopefully have a part time job at either Tobeys or Jons Ice-Cream. I would be so excited to have my first job at one of those places! It would be cool to work somewhere where you would be able to see everybody you know.

I would still be in high school and would be a senior. I would have a car too. I want my first car to be a truck. I don’t care what kind, but I kind of want a big truck.I would probably want black or silver truck. I want a big truck because it would be cool and it would be good in the winter but there would be bad things to. Like it would take a lot of gas and I don’t really want to pay for $70 a week. That would be one of the bad things. If I decided not to get a big truck then I would probably get a car like a small car that’s good on gas. It would be awesome if I could get a car like a Dodge Charger or a Mustang!!! But I know I wouldn’t be able to afford a car like that.

I would play sports all year round. In the fall I would probably play soccer because I love and always will love being a goalie. In the winter I might play basket-ball but I don’t know if I would or not. In the spring I would try out for track. Then in the summer I would go to a goalie camp or just go jogging everyday or maybe both.

I can’t wait until I’m 5 years older because thinking about it now it seems like it will be a lot of fun. I wouldn’t be able to wait until I graduated high school and went to college to be a marine biologist.

My Room

There it is. My room. With all the bright colors, stillness, and peacefulness, you are immediately relaxed. The first thing you see is the stuff on my walls. My walls are a creamish color, almost an off white with a tiny hint of tan. I have pictures and quotes hung in random places in my room and cork boards full of pictures of me ,my friends ,and my family. Cut outs from magazines and piles of magazines I have read over and over again. On the walls almost to my ceiling is my border. My purple border that matches the main theme of my room, bright colors.

The next thing you notice is my bed which has a shelf for the headboard and is full of books. My bed is right in front of my window. My window doesn’t have any curtains so the light always shines in my room and is always very bright. My bed is tall with drawers underneath made with light tan wood. In those five drawers is where I keep my clothes. Next to my bed are my little cubes that are pink, that is where I keep all my soccer and basketball stuff like cleats ,sneakers , uniforms, and on top of that I have picture frames that are still empty but I need to find pictures to put in them

Next to the soccer and basketball stuff is my chair where I do all my reading and homework. It is a purple chair with soft fur on it. It is shaped like a circle and is comfy. In the corner under the chair is where I put all the stuff I don’t need anymore. Next to the chair is the empty wall and then the door.

Next to my door is my bureau. Full of clothes I never wear but don’t want to get rid of. It has six drawers stuffed so full they can barely close. On top of my bureau is my t.v and right next to my t.v is my little table where I keep all kinds of different things. It has 3 drawers.

The view out my window is of my front yard and my pond. It’s so pretty in the winter and summer. Looking to the left out my window, you can see my garage.

My floor is a grayish color and on top of that in the middle of my floor is a throw rug with a lot of different color string designs like pink, orange, green, and yellow with a white background.
